You can ask for a free copy of your credit report by mail once a year. There are three main credit bureaus in Canada: Northern Credit Bureaus, Equifax Canada and Trans Union
of Canada.
Details and information on how to order credit reports are available online. But, you have to send in photo copies of two forms of IDs along with some common background information. The reports will
normally come back in two to three weeks. Every Canadian is allowed to ask for one free report by mail every year.
You'll have to pay close attention to the Trans Union and Equifax sites to find the forms you will need to request your free credit report by mail. The links are not well displayed, the companies
will also try to sell you instant access to your report online instead. To get your credit score, you will have to spend a little more. Both Equifax and Trans Union offer consumers online access to
their credit score and credit report for a fee.
